I agonise over this one, but for our site I don't think we could charge for news because there are far too many other websites out there chasing after the same or similar content, particularly the content surrounding high-profile chefs. But I can see that for other sites in the company where there's an incredible resource the potential is there. It's not just the internet that's killing print.
Conversely, local newspaper sales have not been hit so hard, so the hint is there for the majors - scale down and affect our back yard first.
If a publication highlights that my local council is charging me for collecting refuse for instance, which I pay for anyway, and then help me get something done about it, I might be more disposed to what you have to say about Obama.
The little things affect me now - Obama doesn't.
Until the big boys get this inside their heads, they will continue to lose customers to a disparate bunch of websites and publications.
Good work and good luck with your project.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8004853544242794101.post-65536332361114695402008-10-22T10:55:00.000+01:002008-10-22T10:55:00.000+01:00By all means, be my guest!By all means, be my guest!Andrew Orangehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10998244517862702881noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8004853544242794101.post-29079169955155533392008-10-21T21:04:00.000+01:002008-10-21T21:04:00.000+01:00Thanks. That way its controlled and there is little or no editing to do. If you could stand a little repetition, you could set the video camera up, put people on their marks and shoot.

You don't have to spend a lot of time setting the scene.

Get people to come to the camera to be interviewed. Video the interviews in the same place each time with the same set up.

If each interview is 2 min long then that's 2 minutes to digitise, 2 minutes to add the intro and ending and 10 minutes to post to the web. We have turned stories round on video like this much faster than text stories. It is a pretty efficient process.

It's not cinematic art, but then journalism isn't literature.

If you've got the time then paint a picture.Biofuelsimonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16227140278265798586noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8004853544242794101.post-27961464854811798482008-09-18T15:11:00.000+01:002008-09-18T15:11:00.000+01:00I get most of my social media application news fro...I get most of my social media application news from http://www.twit.tv podcasts especially Net at Nite.

It still makes my head ache though.trpwhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04101745965736480113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8004853544242794101.post-54342766522606422512008-09-01T14:08:00.000+01:002008-09-01T14:08:00.000+01:00Just out of interest, what's the group?Just out of interest, what's the group?JD (The Engine Room)https://www.blogger.com/profile/00836972574430969375noreply@blogger.com
